I recently bought an Apple Watch Ultra 3 as an upgrade from my Apple Watch Series 6. I didn’t buy it specifically to use as a dive computer, but since I already have it, I’m curious about how reliable it is for diving with the Oceanic+ app. I’ve read a lot of older reviews and posts about the Apple Watch Ultra / Ultra 2 as a dive computer. Some people seem to really like it and say it has worked well for them, but others reported app crashes at depth, which is obviously a serious concern. Before this turns into a “just buy a Shearwater” discussion, here’s my situation: I already own a Cressi Leonardo 2.0, so the Apple Watch would not be my only dive computer. I only dive a few times a year, usually basic recreational open water dives. I rarely go deeper than 60–70 ft, and I have no interest in deeper or technical diving. I’m not too worried about the Oceanic+ subscription cost. I’d probably just pay for a one-month subscription during a dive trip, so the cost per dive is acceptable to me. Given that context, I’m mainly looking for feedback from people who have used the Apple Watch Ultra with Oceanic+ recently, especially on the Ultra 2 or Ultra 3. For those who have used it lately: Do you find the Apple Watch Ultra + Oceanic+ setup reliable? Have you experienced app crashes or freezes during dives? Are the crash reports mostly an older issue, or is this still happening? Would you trust it as a primary dive computer for simple recreational dives, or only as a backup? Part of me feels like I’ll probably never use it as my only dive computer because of the older crash reports. At the end of the day, this is safety equipment, and I don’t want to take unnecessary risks. That said, I’d be very interested to hear whether Apple and Oceanic+ have improved the reliability enough in 2026 that people now feel comfortable using it for basic recreational diving. Thanks in advance.
